Dots

I was feeling a little polka dot action today, and was happy to find a dress that I haven't worn in a while.  Sometimes, it's amazing to just stop and stand in your closet, and pull out pieces that maybe you've only worn once and forgot about. My mom calls it "shopping in my closet!"

I try not to have too many "one hit wonders" a term I use when referring to clothing that I purchase and wear once. Honestly, I was afraid this dress would be one of those pieces, but I'm pleasantly surprised that I've found more uses for this dress than one!

Rusty

{Pants: Gap | Jacket: William Rast | Shirt: Gap | Jewelry: Alex & Ani | Watch: MK | Necklace: Vintage | Booties: Nordstrom, similar here}

There's something about rusty buildings that I love. When I found this one to shoot in front of, I thought it was the perfect backdrop for this outfit.

I bought this leather jacket a few years back - last seen here - and I find it goes with mostly anything. There's something soft and sexy about the elephant color of the jacket and booties. Really screams spring to me!

Happy Friday!

Spring Makeup Tips

I've been feeling pretty drab lately with my winter makeup routine, so I recently paid a visit to the MAC counter to see what they had to say. After sitting in the chair for a few minutes, I realized that I was probably going to walk out of the store with more makeup than I originally anticipated - and I did!

What I learned is that we go through phases and routines, and tend to stick with makeup regimens that work for us. There's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes even just switching up your lip color can make a big difference. Here's my how-to instructions on MY spring makeup!

1. Start with a clean face.

3. In a T motion, brush the base on your face.

4. Start with your foundation. I use MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC15.

5. In that same T motion, brush the fluid on your face, making sure to get in all the creases.

7. If you're like me, you need to pencil in your eyebrows. My brows always look more fresh with a bit of color. For this, I use just a cheap eyebrow pencil from Sephora, but feel free to use any that match your brows.

8. Now it's time to add your blush. I absolutely LOVE my new MAC blush "Azalea in the Afternoon."

9. Stroke the blush starting farther back on your cheekbone. The key with blush is to build it on gradually, not just with one stripe.

10. Now it's time for eyes. For this I used Girlie Satin Eyeshadow. Brush along your lid.

11. Add your crease color. I used Patina Frost.

12. Brush in the crease, and keep building on the color gradually.

13. Mascara is next. MAC False Lashes in Black I used.

14. Top your look off with some lipstick (I used MAC Faux) and you're ready to hit the town!

Be Bright.

I love nail polish, this is no secret. I usually paint my nails once a week, making sure to keep up with the latest trends.

In these dreary, winter months, it's always nice to brighten up your nails, even if they are your only bright accessory.

I've added some bright colors above, so put a smile on your face and try them!

1. OPI: Did It On 'Em
2. Essie: Mojito Madness
3. OPI: Do you Lilac it?
4. Essie: Fiji
5. Essie: Go Overboard
6. OPI: I'm All Ears
7. Essie: Case Study
8. OPI: Fly

Walk

{Maxi: H&M, Shoes: Sam Edelman, Belt: Michael Kors, Jacket: Vince, Scarf: H&M, Bracelet: Tory Burch}

There is something serene and calming about taking a walk. Even if your walk is to your street stop sign and back, it's always great to take a moment away from the day and enjoy the outdoors! Fresh air can always do us some good!

Pleasant Surprises

{Top: 5/48, Shorts: Joie, Shoes: Sam Edelman, Bag: Chanel, Jewelry: Vintage, MK Watch, David Yurman, Rebecca Minkoff, Low Luv, Linea Pelle}

Sometimes, I forget what I have in my closet, especially when my spring clothes have been cooped up in garment bags in a spare closet all winter. Unpacking clothes from the previous Spring and Summer seasons is always like getting a new gift. I love finding items that I forgot I own, such as this silk cobalt blue top. Sometimes old feels so new!

Mellow Yellow

{Jacket: Rebecca Taylor, Dress: Glam, Shoes: Sam Edelman, Jewelry: Vintage, MK watch, David Yurman, J Crew, Rebecca Minkoff, Linea Pelle, Belt: J Crew, Sunglasses: Rayban, Clutch: American Apparel}

A splash of color can always brighten the day! I'm always drawn to yellow. It is such a vibrant, bright color that can be loud or understated and mellow. The pairing of yellow and gold always catches my eye!

Happy Monday!

Spring Has Sprung

{H&M Dress, Vince Denim Jacket, Sperry Top-Siders, Vintage Necklace, David Yurman Ring, Michael Kors Watch, Low Luv Ring}

Spring has finally sprung! Florals are popping up everywhere, both in prints on clothing and real flowers in full bloom! Today was such a hot day, so I threw on this maxi dress and hit the town. I let my hair air dry, and I am very pleased with the natural waviness that it has! What an easy/breezy day!

What are some of your favorite casual spring outfits?

Happy Tuesday!
